Janie Mauter, P.E.

Janie grew up in north Alabama as the youngest child of an English professor and a NASA engineer.  She graduated from The University of Alabama and has worked in Birmingham for over 20 years as a civil engineer.  As a licensed professional engineer, she has experience in land development, water main transmission, landfill design, hydraulic modeling and nuclear quality.  Currently, Janie is a Project Manager and the Alabama Client Champion Leader at Barge Design Solutions.  Janie was also assigned the task of working on the team for the design and successful completion of City Walk, the outdoor multi-use space that exists under the elevated bridges of Interstate I-20/59 in downtown Birmingham.  The project creatively integrated pickle ball courts, sculptures and water features, amphitheaters, skateboard ramps, civil rights history engagement, playgrounds, open lawn areas, and pedestrian trails.  The City Walk project has gained national recognition and is used daily by both tourists and residents of Birmingham.

She is a longtime member of the Board of Directors for the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE).  As an ASPE Birmingham nominee, Janie was the recipient of the Engineering Council of Birmingham (ECOB) Engineer of the Year award during the 2024 ECOB Awards Banquet.  Moreover, she diligently serves as the coordinator for the MATHCOUNTS program, which consists of local, state, and national competitions that require participants to solve mathematical based queries within a certain allotment of time.  She is committed to giving family much of the remainder of her time, so not much time is available to fulfill her hobbies of traveling, reading and playing music.
